36% of IT professionals worry about AI job displacement

The new research outlined that just 7% of respondents believe AI will benefit employees more than employers.

A recent study, conducted by IT integrated solutions provider Ivanti, has revealed that 36% of IT workers harbor concerns about the potential job displacement caused by artificial intelligence (AI) within the next five years. This study, based on a survey of 8,400 office workers, IT and security professionals, and C-level executives worldwide, also highlighted that only 7% of respondents believe AI will primarily benefit employees rather than employers. These findings reflect a widespread sense of unease among workers regarding the unknown consequences of AI's impact across various industries, including IT, in the coming decade. Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala, Ivanti's Chief Product Officer, emphasized the importance of transparent communication from executives regarding AI strategies and their implications for employee experiences, productivity, and career progression, stressing that human oversight is crucial for successful AI implementation.

The study underscores the significance of understanding employees' concerns and perspectives regarding AI. Dr. Mukkamala emphasized that companies cannot avoid their responsibilities in navigating this evolving landscape, as AI is an enduring presence in the workplace, particularly in the field of IT. AI's widespread integration into various sectors, as exemplified by the recent launch of the AI Alliance involving Meta and IBM, highlights the urgency for addressing AI-related issues. The study also emphasizes the importance of building trust through proactive security measures and AI system resilience while ensuring that the interests of both employers and employees are mutually considered throughout this transformative process.
