Boston researchers have validated an AI algorithm that identifies non-smokers at high risk of lung cancer

A research team from the Massachusetts General Hospital's Center for Cardiovascular Imaging and Harvard Medical School in Boston has developed an artificial intelligence tool capable of identifying non-smokers who may be at risk of developing lung cancer. The researchers utilized 147,497 chest X-ray images from approximately 40,643 smokers and non-smokers to predict the risks associated with lung cancer using the "CXR-Lung-Risk" model.

The study revealed that 28% of the 17,407 patients considered high-risk by this model were later diagnosed with lung cancer. This indicates the effectiveness of the tool in predicting potential risks of lung cancer for non-smokers
