According to a report, AI is expected to significantly impact recent graduates as the availability of entry-level positions decreases

AI in professional settings could potentially allow recent graduates to dedicate more attention to honing the 'soft skills' that employers value

A report suggests that as artificial intelligence becomes more prevalent, entry-level jobs may dwindle, impacting career prospects for university graduates. To mitigate the negative effects of AI, the report recommends providing students with more co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities, such as work placements, international experiences, clubs, and societies. It notes that AI could reshape jobs rather than solely eliminate them, and the impact on graduates' careers will be significant.

Universities are urged to maximize these opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds and collaborate with the government to offer short courses and flexible degrees.

Andrew O'Brien, director of policy and impact at Demos, emphasized the importance of preparing students for the changing workforce, acknowledging that while there is concern about AI's impact, it cannot be reversed. Richard Brown, a report author from the University of London, stressed the need for universities to equip students with essential human skills and judgment that complement technology.

Universities UK (UUK) echoed the importance of adapting to AI's influence, emphasizing the growing demand for individuals with creative thinking skills to harness AI's potential effectively. UUK emphasized that graduates and universities will continue to play a vital role in utilizing and shaping the impact of AI in future workplaces.
