ChatGPT and the impact of AI on jobs

ChatGPT has varying degrees of impact on different jobs

A recent study by job site Indeed analyzed the impact of generative AI, particularly GPT-4 like ChatGPT, on various job roles. Researchers examined over 55 million job postings from August 2022 to July 2023 and evaluated how well ChatGPT could perform the skills required for these jobs.

They found that every job on Indeed's platform had some exposure to generative AI, with around 20% of jobs highly exposed, meaning AI could handle at least 80% of the required skills. However, while AI could perform many skills in these roles, some tasks, like driving a car and hospitality, still required a human touch.

Interestingly, the study revealed that jobs with the most postings were generally less exposed to AI, but AI's capabilities in these roles were expected to improve over time.

The research indicates that generative AI, like ChatGPT, has varying degrees of impact on different jobs, with some roles more vulnerable to automation than others. While AI can handle many tasks, certain jobs still rely on uniquely human skills, and AI capabilities are expected to evolve in the future, potentially affecting more roles.
