Operation Monopoly: Dubai Police arrest 43 people in a fraud case involving the use of AI

Dubai Police have arrested 43 individuals suspected of being part of an international syndicate using AI-powered deepfake technology. This group is accused of stealing $36 million from two Asian companies. They allegedly hacked emails between company directors and branch managers, manipulating staff to transfer large funds to their accounts in Dubai. The suspects are of various nationalities.

The arrests were made as part of Operation Monopoly, launched after a lawyer reported a multimillion-dollar fraud to Dubai Police's e-crime platform. The police have identified the ringleader, who is currently outside the UAE, and have issued red arrest warrants for 20 additional suspects. This operation was conducted in collaboration with international partners, including authorities in France, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
