His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama was appointed as the State Minister for Artificial Intelligence in 2017, becoming the world's first Minister of Artificial Intelligence. In 2023, he was additionally assigned the position of Director-General of the Office of the Prime Minister's Affairs at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.

Omar Sultan Al Olama holds numerous leadership positions, including serving as a board member of the Dubai Future Foundation, Deputy Chairman of the Global Government Summit Foundation, and Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy. His work focuses on governance, regulation, and data infrastructure to promote the UAE as a global hub for testing AI innovations. He also accelerates growth in the digital economy sector and contributes to the UAE's non-oil GDP through initiatives like personal data protection laws, the National Program for Coders, and the UAE Council for AI and Digital Transactions. He holds a diploma in project management from the American University in Sharjah and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the American University in Dubai.

Time magazine highlighted his vision for comprehensive coordination among government entities in the field of artificial intelligence, comparing this with global leaders in AI, including the United States, the European Union, and China, who have not yet followed the example set by the UAE.
