Gmail's new AI feature can write your emails for you

Duet AI assists users in drafting longer and more personalized emails

Google has unveiled its latest AI advancement for Gmail, revealing that users will soon benefit from an AI companion capable of aiding in email composition and customization. The announcement was made during the Google Cloud Next '23 event, where the company also introduced Duet AI, an AI-powered assistant available to Workspace users. This innovative tool extends its support across tasks like meetings, document creation, and Google Chat. A notable feature is the enhancement of Gmail's smart reply function. Through a "Help me write" button, Duet AI assists users in drafting longer, more personalized emails using their own language, and even allows adjustments in tone or conciseness, while also offering creative writing styles with an "I'm feeling Lucky" option.

Moreover, Google's update elaborated on the mechanics behind this feature. Duet AI leverages contextual understanding from previous email threads to propose relevant responses in ongoing conversations. Not only can users compose emails in their own style, but they can also modify the tone, level of detail, and length of their drafts. The same helpful feature will soon be available in Docs, offering content adjustments, summaries, formatting options, and more. This AI advancement not only streamlines communication but also empowers users to tailor their emails and documents more effectively, ultimately enhancing their digital correspondence experience.
