New study: finance jobs in London are most impacted by AI
The study revealed that AI was expected to affect positions in the fields of finance, law, and business management
A recent report assessing the impact of AI on London city workers has raised concerns, particularly in the finance and insurance sectors. The analysis, conducted in the UK, predicts that professionals in London will be among the first to experience the effects of AI advancements. The UK government's Department for Education's Unit for Future Skills conducted the study, which identified professional jobs, especially those involving clerical tasks or related to finance, law, and business management, as being highly exposed to AI.
The finance and insurance sector was deemed the most vulnerable to AI disruption, although other fields like property, education, and administration were also expected to face significant impacts. Furthermore, individuals with qualifications in accounting and finance were found to be particularly susceptible to AI-related job changes.
The report used a methodology developed by US academics to gauge the exposure of various roles to AI technology. It considered the skills required for jobs across the UK labor market and assessed how much these roles could benefit from common AI applications, such as speech and image recognition, translation, and language modeling.
