New study revealed that many jobs in the Columbus region will be at risk due to AI
Nearly 140,000 positions, are at risk of being replaced by AI
Around 13% of jobs in the Columbus metro area, equivalent to nearly 140,000 positions, are at risk due to the advancement of artificial intelligence, according to an analysis by ChamberofCommerce.org. The rise of AI presents a dual economic impact—while it can enhance productivity, it also brings substantial job displacement.
By comparing federal labor data with research on AI-vulnerable occupations, the analysis revealed that common administrative roles such as cashiers, clerks, and accountants could face significant job losses. Other Midwestern cities like Cleveland and Cincinnati have similar risk percentages, with Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Indianapolis ranking higher. The World Economic Forum suggests that new roles aligned with the evolving relationship between humans, machines, and algorithms will emerge alongside these job losses.
