Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, the President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment to harnessing the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) for the betterment of humanity. Speaking at the AI Safety Summit 2023, he emphasized the importance of building a shared understanding of the risks associated with advanced AI and the need for global collaboration.
Al-Ghamdi also highlighted that AI's impact extends far beyond classrooms and teaching methods, potentially reshaping the entire approach to education. He stressed the importance of adapting to AI's transformative effects and encouraged innovation in developing the necessary tools.
In the second session of the summit, Al-Ghamdi discussed Saudi Arabia's commitment to AI development, especially in healthcare. He announced the successful launch of a highly accurate diabetic retinopathy screening program and emphasized AI's role in breast cancer detection through collaborative efforts.
Additionally, Al-Ghamdi highlighted SDAIA's efforts in the AI field, including partnerships with the World Bank and Google Cloud to train 25,000 women worldwide in AI skills, addressing the digital divide. He concluded with optimism about AI's potential in healthcare and beyond, inviting collaboration for a brighter and more equitable future that leverages AI for the benefit of humanity.
