The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been selected to join the UN Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, which comprises 39 members representing various sectors, including government, private enterprises, civil society, and academia from different countries worldwide.

Dr. Latifa bint Mohammad Al-Abdulkareem, a member of the Shura Council, will represent Saudi Arabia in this body. The selection of members aims to ensure diversity in terms of gender, geography, and age, fostering a wide range of perspectives for addressing AI-related challenges.

In 2022, during the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the Kingdom hosted a consultative meeting related to the establishment of the UN Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence

This initiative, proposed in 2020 by the UN Secretary-General, is part of the digital cooperation roadmap, with the goal of conducting thorough analysis and offering recommendations concerning the international governance of AI.
