Since ChatGPT launched last year its mobile apps have topped 110M installs and generated nearly $30M in revenue
India and the U.S. are the top countries for ChatGPT downloads, with 18% and 17.5% of total downloads
In the past year, ChatGPT has rapidly gained popularity, evolving from a research preview into a widely used AI chatbot tool for mainstream users. The release of the ChatGPT mobile app played a significant role in this success, with its launch on iOS in May 2023 and Android in July 2023. On its first anniversary, data from mobile intelligence provider data.ai reveals that the combined installs of ChatGPT's mobile apps have exceeded 110 million, resulting in nearly $30 million in consumer spending. This revenue is primarily generated through the sale of the ChatGPT Plus subscription, priced at $19.99 per month, offering various benefits, including enhanced access, faster response times, and early access to new features.
While ChatGPT has seen substantial growth, it faces competition from other AI chatbot apps, with Ask AI currently leading in revenue due to its lower-priced premium features. Despite this, ChatGPT's mobile app downloads continue to rise, with Android downloads reaching a record 18 million installs within a week of its release. The app maintains an average of over 4 million downloads per week, surpassing other generative AI apps.
