"Imagine with Meta AI" transforms written prompts into pictures, utilizing publicly available Facebook information for training

Meta has launched a standalone AI image-generator website called "Imagine with Meta AI," powered by its Emu image-synthesis model. This model was trained using 1.1 billion publicly accessible Facebook and Instagram images, enabling it to create new images based on written prompts. Previously, this technology was limited to messaging and social networking apps. Users can now access it through the website, creating four 1280x1280 pixel images with a "Imagined with AI" watermark.

While it generally produces photorealistic images and handles complex prompts, it struggles with text rendering and different media outputs. Meta's use of publicly available photos for training means setting photos to private on Instagram or Facebook can prevent their inclusion in future AI model training.
