The potential impact of Generative AI on jobs and skills
Only 19.8% of jobs on Indeed are highly exposed to GenAI
Indeed has released its AI at Work Report, which examines how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) will impact jobs and the skills needed for them. The study, conducted by Indeed Hiring Lab, reveals that while GenAI can enhance or perform tasks within various roles, only 19.8% of jobs on Indeed are highly exposed to GenAI, suggesting that it is unlikely to fully replace most jobs.
The report analyzed over 55 million job postings and identified exposure levels (low, moderate, high) for GenAI, with software development jobs having the highest potential exposure and driving jobs the lowest. The research also highlights that jobs requiring intuition, reasoning, or manual work are less susceptible to GenAI.
Indeed's Chief Economist, Svenja Gudell, noted that GenAI is more likely to augment or streamline job tasks than replace entire roles, leading to job reconfiguration and the creation of new roles. Additionally, Indeed has integrated AI into its platform for over 15 years, offering AI-powered features to improve job matching and the hiring process.
The company remains committed to ethical AI use and has published Responsible AI principles to ensure transparency and ethical practices.
