UAE reveals locally developed AI large language model specifically designed for climate intelligence
Jais Climate includes 1.4 million climate-related instructions
In a groundbreaking development, Jais Climate, the world's first bilingual large language model dedicated to climate intelligence, was recently unveiled at the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi, just ahead of the Cop28 conference in Dubai. This advanced language model, focused on climate, sustainability, and Cop28, resulted from a collaborative effort between the university and Core42.
Jais Climate boasts a training dataset of 1.4 million climate-related instructions, drawn from ClimaInstruct, the largest bilingual dataset on climate and sustainability topics. Large language models like Jais Climate have played a pivotal role in advancing artificial intelligence, enabling quick access to information and task automation.
Jais Climate offers a valuable resource for understanding climate-related issues before and during the Cop28 conference, according to Andrew Jackson, Core42's executive vice president and chief AI officer. The Cop28 conference is scheduled to take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
The model, named after the UAE's highest peak in Ras Al Khaimah, will be continuously updated with new data and will prioritize science-based climate fact-checking and dispelling potential misconceptions. This innovative development underscores the UAE's commitment to climate intelligence and sustainability, emphasizing the pivotal role of technology and scientific research in shaping a sustainable future.
