ChatGPT can now search the web in real time

This update enables ChatGPT to provide current and reliable information for tasks that require updated data

OpenAI has reintroduced a significant feature for ChatGPT, enabling users to access real-time web search capabilities. Initially removed in July due to concerns about users bypassing paywalls, this feature will now be powered by the Bing search engine through a partnership with Microsoft.

This move aligns with Meta's recent announcement of incorporating Bing search into its "AI experiences." OpenAI attributes this revival to valuable user feedback, making improvements such as adhering to robots.txt rules and identifying user agents to allow websites control over ChatGPT's interactions.

This enhancement empowers ChatGPT to provide current and authoritative information, a significant advantage for tasks requiring up-to-date data. However, it is currently available exclusively to ChatGPT Plus users and will expand to all users soon. To activate this feature, users must select "GPT-4" and then "Browse with Bing."
