Glass Health is developing an AI tool for suggesting medical diagnoses

Glass Health provides an AI tool powered by a large language model to generate medical diagnoses and treatment options

Dereck Paul, a medical student at UC San Francisco, noticed a lack of innovation in medical software compared to other fields. He believed that patients would benefit from cutting-edge tech-equipped doctors and envisioned a company prioritizing patients and doctors over hospital administrators and insurance companies. He teamed up with Graham Ramsey, an engineer at Modern Fertility, to launch Glass Health in 2021. Glass Health initially provided a notebook for physicians to store and share their diagnostic approaches. However, the company pivoted to generative AI, offering an AI tool powered by a large language model to generate diagnoses and treatment options. It gained early traction among healthcare professionals on social media and received funding.

While Glass Health's tool seems promising, there are concerns about the accuracy of AI in healthcare. Bias could also influence AI diagnoses due to training data limitations and biased medical records. Glass Health addresses these concerns by connecting its AI with clinical guidelines reviewed by an academic physician team and involving clinicians in supervising AI outputs. Despite legal and regulatory considerations, Glass Health is finding success with over 59,000 users and plans to expand its offerings to health systems and enterprises.
