Google’s AI-powered search experience can now generate images from texts

Google aims to ensure responsible usage by incorporating watermarking to indicate images generated by AI

Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) is introducing a feature that allows users to generate images from text prompts. Users who opt into SGE through Google's Search Labs program can simply input a query into the Google search bar, and SGE will create several images based on the prompt. These images can be selected by the user.

Additionally, Google aims to ensure responsible use of this image generation tool, incorporating metadata labeling and watermarking to indicate AI-generated images and implementing restrictions on generating certain types of images.

In addition to image generation, Google is expanding SGE to create written drafts based on search queries, offering options for draft length and tone. Users can export these drafts to Google Docs or Gmail. While Google continues to improve SGE, some users find it slow, preferring traditional search results. However, these new image and draft creation tools hold promise for various creative applications.
