Humane launches the AI Pin, an AI-powered wearable gadget
Humane officially unveils the AI-powered wearable device, 'AI Pin,' promising to simplify user interaction with technology
Humane has officially unveiled its highly-anticipated AI-powered wearable, the AI Pin, following months of demonstrations and teasers. Priced at $699, this innovative device comprises a square unit and a magnetic battery pack designed to attach to clothing or surfaces. In addition to the device cost, users are required to pay a $24 monthly fee for a Humane subscription, offering a phone number and data coverage via T-Mobile's network. Preorders are set to commence on November 16th, with shipping expected to start in early 2024.
The AI Pin is equipped with a Snapdragon processor and can be controlled using voice commands, a camera, gestures, and a built-in projector. Weighing approximately 34 grams, with an additional 20 grams for the battery booster, the device features a 13-megapixel camera for both photos and, following a software update, video capture.
Unlike some recording devices, the AI Pin requires manual activation via touchpad input, indicated by its "Trust Light" status indicator. Its core functionality involves connecting to AI models through Humane's AI Mic software, collaborating with Microsoft and OpenAI, with the potential to access ChatGPT. The device aims to simplify user interaction by eliminating excessive interface complexity, allowing users to interact naturally with technology.
While its initial features include voice-based messaging, email summary, nutritional information retrieval, real-time translation, and an LLM-powered search engine, Humane plans to expand its capabilities with navigation and shopping features, encouraging developers to create additional tools. Overall, Humane envisions the AI Pin as the beginning of a broader project, anticipating improvements over time as AI models evolve and the device's utility expands, akin to the smartphone's transformative impact on the tech industry.
